What is Veriplace?
As you may know, technologies exist to locate mobile phones through GPS and other means. Veriplace provides a safe way for people to share this location information from their phones with websites and services they trust. The important thing about Veriplace is that you retain control of your location information. How much you share is up to you. Only want an application to know the general neighborhood you're in? No problem. Don't want to share any location information on weekends? We can do that too.
-
Who runs Veriplace? Why should I trust them?
Veriplace is provided by Location Labs, a well-established provider of location-based services to the wireless industry. We work with major North American and global wireless carriers to provide Family Locator products, GPS Navigation software, business fleet-tracking services, and other products where security and privacy of location data is of utmost importance.
-
How does Veriplace know my location?
In most cases, we use our direct relationship with wireless carriers to access location information. In some cases, we are able to locate mobile phones independently using software that either comes with the phone or is installed by you. In either case, Veriplace provides full transparency into when and where you are being located, and will not share your location information with anyone without you asking us to.
-
What does Veriplace cost?
Veriplace makes our service available to you for free. We do not charge you anything. Please note you might incur normal charges from your wireless carrier for things like text messages and any use of the internet on your phone. Also, the web sites and apps you share your location with may choose to charge you for their services, at their discretion.
Privacy and Location
-
Who can see my location information?
We will only share your location with an application if you have specifically asked us to. Those applications are listed on the right side of the Veriplace website. No other applications can see your location info.
-
How secure is my private info and location data?
Veriplace takes privacy and security very seriously. Application partners are required to do the same, though ultimately you should only share your location with websites and services that you trust.
-
How long does Veriplace store my location data? Can I delete it?
We only want to store your data as long as it is useful to you and to the applications you are sharing with. In your account settings you can see and control how long we're currently storing your data. Regardless of where you set the cutoff, you are always free to delete your location data early (specific locations, or even all of it). You'll find links to clear your data in "My Location History."
-
If I make changes, does that affect location info that has already been shared?
We'll do our best to enforce your changes, but in some cases there is no way to apply the change retroactively to data that you have already shared with another application.
Using Veriplace
-
Why do I sometimes receive text messages about Veriplace?
For security reasons, Veriplace occasionally sends text messages to your phone to remind you that your phone can be located. These messages can't be turned off, but will become less frequent with time.
-
I have a question about how to use one of my applications.
If you have questions about using a particular application, please contact the providers of the application directly. You can find their customer care contact info by clicking on the application name in Veriplace, then scrolling down the page to find their contact info.
-
Why is my location wrong or not working?
There is no one single answer. If you are being located but the results are not as good as you'd expect, it may be a combination of the technologies being used to locate your phone and the environment around you. Location usually works better outside than it does indoors, for example. Some phones and carriers work best away from dense urban areas, while others actually work better in cities than they do in less populated areas. If your location isn't working at all, you can contact us using the link at the bottom of this page (make sure to tell us your wireless carrier and what kind of phone you are using).

I'm a developer. Can I use Veriplace with my own website / service / application?
